PressFoto introduces ImageRent

The Russian image agency PressFoto has announced a new offer targeting the growing amount of online usages: ImageRent. The announcement comes a few months after Getty launched its Embedded Viewer to the public but ImageRent offers a few more features that might make it more interesting to image users.

How does ImageRent work for Photo Buyers?

PressFoto is offering three million images within its ImageRent project at the moment. The customer pays upfront for a number of impressions and can use any of the images without downloading them by using an embedding code on their website. PressFoto also offers online tools to alter the image, for example cropping them to the size needed. The tool also enables the user to add text to the image before it is being embedded.

This compares to Getty Images Embedded Viewer which allows the usage of images for free but comes with a fixed frame that will allow Getty to implement advertising as well as back links to their site and social media. Also, Getty's images can not altered when being used through the embedding feature. Getty Images also might show Ads next to their images and might pull it from your website without notice.

What are the costs for ImageRent? Why is it cheaper to rent images now?

The costs for ImageRent is set at $0.01 per thousand impressions. The minimum upfront payment is $1 and the user can have a number of images showing on his website up to 100,000 times in total. Given that many blogs and websites are not being looked at more than 100 times per day, this can already be sufficient to last for years. PressFoto mentioned that ImageRent will never be more expensive than buying the original image.

It might also be interesting for sites generating revenue through advertising as the success of each page is bound to the number of page impressions. Therefore, if a single page only generates very few page views, cost for the image and revenue through advertising are still aligned.

If the prepaid amount runs out, the images will remain visible on the customers site but feature a watermark.
