Sony World Photography Awards Winner Boris Eldagsen to Speak About AI Images at CEPIC 2023 Congress
It was announced today that the award-winning photographer Boris Eldagsen, who made headlines recently after winning the Sony World Photography Award with an AI-generated photo, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming CEPIC Congress 2023 this May in France.
Mr. Eldagsen will integrate a workshop addressing AI imagery, its impact on the visual industry and culture, and how it should be treated and used.
Boris Eldagsen’s Rejected Sony World Photography Prize for AI-Generated Photo
Boris Eldagsen is a globally-renowned German photographer whose distinctive work has been featured in high-profile publications such as the New York Times or Vogue Italia.
But more recently, he has been in the spotlight after winning the prestigious Sony World Photography Award 2023… and rejecting it after disclosing his winning image was, in fact, AI-generated. See his winning AI-made picture below:
Per his declarations, by refusing the prize, he hopes to accelerate a debate on what should be considered photography, whether AI-generated visuals should be under the photography label or even admitted into photography contests.
“Is AI Hijacking Art?” – CEPIC Congress 2023 AI Day
The CEPIC organization was pleased to announce today that Boris himself will be one of the featured speakers in the workshop entitled “Is AI Hijacking Art?” which will take place at 15:00hs during the Congress’ AI Day that takes place on May 11th, 2023, at The Palais de Congress in Antibes, France, in the center of the Sophia-Antipolis technologic park (where the whole CEPIC Congress 2023 is happening).
In this workshop, Eldagsen and other experts in cultural heritage, tech research, and image copyright protection technologies will discuss how visual AI impacts the world and how we should treat synthetic media going forward. According to the accomplished photographer, AI images are their own genre and should not be merged into photography.
This will surely be a very interesting debate and one not to be missed for anyone interested in AI generative technology and in knowing what the future of the photography industry might look like!
