123RF is the latest stock photo agency to join the AI wave with its own AI text-to-image generator.
The new tool, available on the agency’s website, lets you create images from text prompts, review the results, and license the one(s) you prefer. The usage license comes with a monetary legal guarantee, among other perks.
Read on for more details on how this new, available-to-all tool works!
123RF AI-Powered Image Generation Tool
The new 123RF AI Image Generator, which they say delivers “creativity at the speed of your imagination,” is relatively simple to use and can create images in three steps:
- Write a text prompt to instruct the AI software on what to create. The more detailed and precise your prompt is, the better results you can expect. The agency recommends including details such as perspective, subject, action, keywords, lighting, and style, to ensure great AI-generated images.
- Review the images. The software generates four images based on your prompt that you can preview to choose the one that best suits your needs. Keep in mind that while images are created within seconds, complex prompts might take slightly longer. The generation speed is also affected by the number of prompts the software handles simultaneously at any given time.
- License the chosen image to download it and use it in personal and commercial projects under a 123RF licensing agreement that includes a $25,000 legal coverage.
As you see, it’s a rather straightforward process.
A few important considerations, though:
- All the content you generate with this tool belongs to the agency, and they might make it available for other users to see and use. You do not own the copyright to any of these AI-generated pictures.
- There is a daily limit for how many images you can generate, which is higher for users with active subscriptions or acquired credit packs in the last 30 days – yet the tool is available for all. The prompt input and image previewing are free to use, all you need is a 123RF user account (and sign-up is also free).
- Each AI-generated image download costs the same as a regular stock image download, whether with a subscription or on-demand with credits.
Royalty-Free Licensed AI Pictures
As you might have heard, there are still a lot of uncertainties regarding the legal status of AI-generated images, particularly those created with certain tools and platforms like Stable Diffusion or Midjourney. Safer options with legal coverage are much better for businesses and anyone using the pictures commercially.
123RF’s AI Image Generator sets itself to be one of those safer choices, as the images you generate with it are available to download only under the 123RF AI Generator license. This license is similar to their Standard License Agreement and covers personal and commercial use across multiple mediums, both digital and print. The regular limitations to print runs and digital reproductions, and prohibitions regarding the use in products for resale, apply.
It does introduce a few terms specific to the AI image generator:
- You must be 16 or older to use this tool, and you must use it responsibly (i.e., no unlawful or ill-intended uses).
- You cannot try to recreate the model nor use the generated images to build a competitor tool.
- You cannot use the software to create sensitive content (such as images that could be deemed obscene, slanderous, defamatory, offensive, violent, etc.) or content that defame, harass, threaten, menace, or offend any person.
- The agency doesn’t offer any guarantees you’d ever be able to copyright the content you create this way.
- They also offer no guarantees regarding trademarks, logos, or other intellectual property belonging to others that may appear in the images (you must verify with the owners of said property directly before using such an image commercially.)
- They reserve a perpetual right to use the content you generate with the tool however they see fit.
- Proven that you have not infringed anyone’s rights and have complied with the license terms, the agreement includes a $25,000 legal backup for your usage.
Overall, this agreement gives you greater safety when using AI-generated images in marketing and advertising, for example.
